August 2010

Kabale, Uganda.

First discussed during a visit by Trustee Don Short in January 2000 and abandoned for lack of interest in June 2001, this project to establish a Jaipur Limb-making facility in the workshop of the Foundation for People with Disabilities, Kabale, Southern Uganda, was resurrected in September 2006 by Rtn Father Aloysius Bukenya. It took a further four years before finally being launched under the guidance of Dr Geoffrey Anguyo, RC Kabale, and Dr Wanume Kale (GLRC) in August 2010. The project included providing equipment and materials for an initial 500 limbs. Training of staff had been at the GLRC in Kampala in March 2010. International sponsor was RC Omagh.

The Annual mega limb camp was held by RC Bangalore Peenya during the first week of January. A total of 2400 beneficiaries were supplied with Jaipur limbs, callipers, crutches, wheelchairs, tricycles and LN4 forearm prostheses as necessary.
