November 2008Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana.
A project to establish an Orthopaedic Facility, sponsored by District 1290 (UK) and RC Sekondi-Takoradi (Western Ghana) was first mooted in June 2003. Five years later the workshop finally opened for business and the first amputees were fitted with artificial limbs. The project included providing equipment and materials for an initial 500 limbs. Training of three technicians in the Jaipur technology was done by Senior Prosthetist Robster Nyirenda (Malawi) and 38 limbs were made and fitted during the training course.

A permanent limb Centre was set up by RC Bangalore Sadashiva Nagar RI Dist 3190 in the orthopaedic department of The M S Ramaiah Hospital. The centre to be run by the hospital with no running costs to The Rotary Club. The Club will pay for the people it refers there.
